She continued to highlight the importance of civics education and teaching students the importance of their participation in forming the nation’s future.
This month, Education Secretary Linda McMahon made more state visits on the national History Rocks! Trail to Independence tour, which highlights civics education and American history as the nation prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary next summer. In Cambridge, Maryland, the secretary was joined by Kellyanne Conway, a member of the U.S. Semiquincentennial.
“As we prepare to celebrate 250 years of American independence, it is critical that students understand both the freedoms we enjoy and the responsibility that comes with them,” said Commission Member Conway. “History Rocks! gives young people the opportunity to appreciate our shared history and recognize the power of civic participation.”
Secretary McMahon visited Pelzer, South Carolina, the following day. She also highlighted the importance of civic education in “preparing young people to understand their rights and responsibilities and to appreciate the principles that have guided our nation for nearly 250 years.”
Secretary McMahon added, “History Rocks! gives students the opportunity to connect with our past in a meaningful way while encouraging them to take an active role in shaping America’s future.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary McMahon to be prudent in her promotion of history and civics education.
- For members of the Semiquincentennial commission as they prepare for the 250th anniversary of the United States.
